If you have a son or daughter who wants to learn piano, or you would like to learn the instrument here’s a parental tip. I can’t stress how important it is to find a piano teacher who is calm and compassionate. When I was young, I had a piano teacher who was stern and strict resulting in anything but a positive learning atmosphere. So, I gave up the piano. I mention this because I know Nicole (Solongo) is a warm and thoughtful person who brings out the best in her students. I’ve seen them perform and you can tell they enjoy playing the piano.
My daughter started taking piano lessons with Nicole when she was just 7. In just two years she’s already taken part in competitions like American Virtuoso, Golden Key, Little Mozart, and Charleston International—and incredibly, she’s won or placed in every one of them. It’s been amazing to watch her grow, not just musically, but as a person. She’s become more confident, focused, and determined. She’s learned the value of patience and working hard toward her goals. We’re so thankful to her teacher, Nicole (Solongo), for guiding her with such care and dedication.
Nicole helps instill a true appreciation for music. Teaching theory and technique in a supportive way, while also making learning fun. I wholeheartedly recommend Solongo as a piano teacher for any family seeking someone who is caring and dedicated to inspiring the next generation of musicians.
What a difference an intelligent piano teacher makes!! My 6-year-old had taken piano lessons for a year. During that year, there was no improvement till she switched to Cadence Music. Wow, my grand daughtered blossomed, huge improvement! Nicole is the best piano teacher! She is very patient and works well with her students. Thank you, Nicole!

Yes, regular practice is essential. A full-sized keyboard or acoustic/digital piano is recommended.
A regular time should be set aside each day for practice. Consistent practice will reinforce concepts and avoid cramming the day before a lesson.
Treat practicing like school homework.
It is important to focus on the quality of practice even more so than the time spent.
Students should practice at least 5 days per week.
Recommended practice time by age is:
5-7 years old: 30-40 minutes
8-10 years old: 40-50 minutes
11-14 years old: 50-60 minutes
15 and older: 60-80 minutes
Weekly practice assignment goals will be set for the student and consistency is important. Encouragement and making time for practice in the student's schedule will sustain progress.
🎹 Essentials to Bring
Notebook & Pencil – For taking notes, writing down assignments, and jotting teacher instructions.
Piano Method Book(s) – Your teacher will likely recommend specific books. Bring them every lesson.
Sheet Music – If you're learning songs outside the method book, bring your printed music.
Practice Log (optional but helpful) – Track your practice time and what you've worked on each week.
🧑🎓 Personal Preparation
Clean Hands & Trimmed Nails – This helps with proper technique and avoids clunky playing.
Questions or Topics – Write down anything that confused you during practice to ask your teacher.
The best option is an acoustic piano that is tuned at least once a year. But if cost, room size and controllable volume are important factors, then a digital piano may be better for you. Wearing headphones or lowering volume, plus variable tones etc. make it a flexible option.
Digital pianos can be excellent too, with a sound and touch similar to acoustic, but it will not be exactly the same.
A digital piano must have the following features:
88 keys, touch sensitive, weighted keys, sustain/damper pedal, bench of an appropriate height, entirely self-contained or on a keyboard stand (not a table or desk).
Located in an area of the home that promotes consistent practice.
Lessons typically consist of 40-minute sessions.
Yes! We host student recitals at least once a year to give everyone a chance to showcase their progress.
We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Make-up lessons can be scheduled based on availability.
